As
head of the art program at the Kent Campus of Florida Community
College at Jacksonville, Anne Banas' true passion is found in helping
her students find their artistic heart and learn to express it.
For this reason Anne continues to teach Drawing 1 classes, as well
as more advanced painting and mural design.
She has had
paintings and other pieces of art displayed in galleries as well
as corporate and government offices from California to New York,
but her most publically-recognizable pieces are her murals. She
has completed several since moving to Jacksonville in 1989, including
the city's most-loved landmark mural, the "Cat
House".
In 1998 Anne
completed what is perhaps her most nationally-recognized piece of
public art: America's largest hand-painted
mural, the landmark "First Team".
This mural rose more than 150 feet over downtown Jacksonville (a
feat in itself for Anne, who had to overcome her fear of heights
to climb the 14 levels of scaffolding each day!). It depicted five
of the original Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team, along with their
coach. The mural was nationally-televised during every home game
from its completion in the summer of 1998 until it was painted over
in September 2006. A limited number of signed & numbered collector's
prints of this mural are available.
